Baltimore, MD, September 28, 2021— Ellington West, Co-founder and CEO of Sonavi Labs, has been named to Inc.’s fourth annual Female Founders 100 list, which honors an exceptional, trailblazing, and diverse group of 100 women who powered through adversity in a tough year and changed the world.

Ellington, who was recently named a 2021 Cartier Women’s Initiative North American Fellow as mentioned in Forbes, joins Inc.’s Female Founders 100 List with entrepreneurs of every age, background, and geography—from very early-stage founders with world-changing ideas to women who have taken companies public, sold them to big buyers, or spent decades building and running their businesses. These women are leading innovative companies in a vast range of global industries, including tech, retail, finance, fitness, health care, consumer products, food, and more.

“I am so honored to join Inc.’s Female Founders 100 list with other women who have inspired and persevered during this unprecedented time to achieve their goals and dreams,” said Ellington. “The past 18 months have made my company’s mission to improve the lives of patients battling respiratory diseases even more urgent, increasing our drive to ensure that advanced respiratory diagnostics are accessible for patients in both clinical settings and in the home. Thank you, Inc., for this recognition and for all the women who show up to create positive change in the world, even in the face of challenges and adversity.”

Ellington West is an award-winning business leader, speaker, and advisor, recognized for being one of the very few Black American women to have raised more than $6.5 million for her company, Sonavi Labs, a global telehealth company focused on decreasing morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases through acoustic technology and artificial intelligence software. Her success growing Sonavi Labs from a research project at Johns Hopkins University into a globally recognized venture-backed startup with an FDA-approved digital stethoscope and five patents, demonstrates her commitment to creating positive change. She continues to build Sonavi Labs’ global presence, penetrating the $20B US remote patient monitoring market and raising awareness about diversity in executive roles, healthcare leadership, and venture funding, speaking on panels for Johnson & Johnson and the Smithsonian.

Inc. editors and writers went through thousands of impressive applications that revealed how so many female founders triumphed in a year filled with challenges. The result is an incredible list of founders who have improvised, adapted, and made something from nothing. They join game-changing past honorees Jessica Alba, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rihanna, Shonda Rhimes, and more. Taken together, they represent the female-led future of business.

“The 100 women highlighted on this list are inspiring, creative, tenacious, and trailblazing role models in entrepreneurship. What’s more is they were able to achieve success during one of the toughest years ever. That’s something certainly worth celebrating,” says Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk.
